«D de dino, F de flor»

Description: This project is my biggest pride and joy. A year long endeavor that started when I was 15 years old. I had a baby cousin on the way, and I wanted to make him a little handmade book. I wanted to make him a fable about dinosaurs, but couldn’t quite place the type of story I wanted to tell. I mauled over that a bit before doing a little writing exercise. I had been really into floriography and the language of flowers at the time. So I decided to merge two of my interest, and write a little sentence for every letter of the alphabet, using a dinosaur, a flower and a verb, starting with the chosen letter. By the time I reached the letter X, I sent the draft to my father, as I was quite pleased with it. To my surprise, he responded with a lone message saying: «You need to make this a book». I researched all dinosaurs and flowers that I included in the text and drew all images using Procreate®. We were able to partner up with Andraval editors, and after a year’s worth of designing, drawing, editing and printing, I had it in my hands, my first book. I presented it in my primary school Via Reggio learning center, and it sold wonderfully well. It is now being distributed all around Mexico and I couldn’t be prouder of it. I’m so lucky for the amount of support I had while making it, and I’m very grateful for my dad, mom, brother, teachers, family, friends and everyone who helped me make this project a reality. But truly what made it so worth it was the tons of children and parents that would later come up to me or my father telling us it was their favorite book. I love that this artwork that means so much to me has grown to be so much to others.
